Description
The Respiratory Module provides experiential education for pre-health professions students by applying the student’s basic science knowledge to the pathophysiology of scenario-based respiratory problems and their treatment. A few basic science correlates to clinical medicine include:
1. Cellular respiration as it relates to cellular function in aerobic and anaerobic states
2. Partial pressures of gasses in the atmosphere
3. Diffusion of O2 and CO2 between the vascular and intracellular environments
4. Physiology of CO2 as a trapped (dissolved) gas in the body, and Henry’s Law
5. Bicarb as a buffer in the body, and the relevance of the carbonic acid equilibrium
